Cheap Things to Do in Nairobi: 14 Days Out for US$25 or Less

You can fill a Nairobi day for very little: Kazuri's guided bead-workshop tour is free, a guided hour in Kereita Forest is KES 400, ForestFoods' farm open day is KES 500, footgolf at Kereita is KES 1,000, a zipline at Ngong Hills is KES 1,200, and a guided city walk, the Green Bus or a Kibera community walk is US$25 each. Here are 14 bookable days out at US$25 per person or less (KES 2,500 or less where the host prices in shillings), with what each includes, the catches, and the official Nairobi National Park fee for a Kenyan adult, which is KES 1,000.

Two rules apply to almost everything on this page. Transport is never included, so the cheap price is the activity, not the day; a KES 400 forest walk in Limuru still needs a ride to Limuru. And several of the cheapest sessions have a minimum group: Ocean Sole needs five people, the hot yoga class four, the Green Bus and footgolf two. Solo visitors should start with Kazuri, Kitengela, the walking tour, the ACT loom or the Kereita walk, all of which take a booking for one.

Kazuri's workshop tour is free

The Free Guided Kazuri Beads Workshop Tour is an artisan-led walk through Kazuri's Nairobi workshop: how Kenyan clay is shaped, kiln-fired, glazed and hand-painted into beads and pottery, the story of a company that began in 1975, then time to browse and try on jewellery in the shop. Tours run Monday to Saturday for up to 15 people; groups bigger than that must contact Kazuri in advance, and the host confirms the entrance and tour time before you arrive. Nothing from the shop is included and you buy only if you want to. If you want to make something, the KES 1,500 Bead Bar earring session is a separate booking, covered in our guide to hands-on workshops in Nairobi.

Under KES 1,000: a forest hour in Kereita and a farm open day

The Guided Kereita Forest Nature Walk is one hour with a local guide through bamboo and indigenous forest at The Forest in Kereita, near Limuru, for KES 400 per adult and KES 200 per child. The guide picks the safest open route for the weather and the group, towards caves, a waterfall or a viewpoint, so no single landmark is guaranteed. An extra hour is a KES 200 add-on. The Forest opens for public activities Thursday to Sunday and on public holidays, sessions start at 9:00 am, the last begins at 4:00 pm and everything ends by 5:00 pm; booking is essential and you check in 20 minutes early. Wear closed shoes with grip and carry a warm or rainproof layer, because Kereita can be cold and muddy when Nairobi is warm. Transport, meals and the other Forest activities are not included.

The ForestFoods Open Day & Farmer's Market in Limuru is KES 500 per adult and KES 50 per child for a guided tour of a regenerative farm, access to the farmer's market and refreshments and light bites. It runs on published dates rather than on demand: the 2026 dates given are 26 September and 28 November, subject to confirmation, and you must RSVP at least 48 hours before. Produce and anything else you buy at the market is extra. It is the cheapest farm day near the city; for a full farm visit with lunch, see Mlango Farm in Ngecha.

KES 1,000 to 2,500: footgolf, a zipline, a loom, air rifles and hot yoga

Footgolf Challenge in Kereita Forest is KES 1,000 per adult and KES 800 per child for roughly an hour kicking a football around up to 10 holes with oversized cups. Games need at least two players; the ball, a rules briefing and course entry are included, picnics are not allowed and food is at the on-site restaurant. Same hours and 15-minute check-in as the nature walk, so the two stack into one cheap Kereita morning. The rest of the Forest's price list is in Kereita Forest activities and prices.

The Ngong Hills Zipline Adventure is KES 1,200 per person for one ride with harness, helmet, fitting and a briefing from the activity team. Book 24 to 48 hours ahead, arrive 20 minutes early, wear closed shoes and carry water and a windproof layer; the park or gate fee is not included unless the host confirms it, and high wind, rain or poor visibility can delay or stop the ride. A sky bike, a high ropes course or a quad ride each add KES 1,200. For the entry fees and the hike itself, read Ngong Hills for a first visit.

Weave with Recycled Textiles in Nairobi at Africa Collect Textiles in Marurui is KES 1,500 per adult and KES 1,000 per child for one hour: a tour of the sorting and recovery floor, live demonstrations, then guided time on a mini loom with all materials included, for up to 15 people. The exact pin comes after booking, closed shoes are required in the working space, and a cancellation 48 hours ahead is refunded in full. More in the ACT weaving visit guide.

The Air Rifle Sports Shooting Session at Kenya Regiment Rifle Club is KES 2,000 per person, with a full safety briefing and coaching from a Range Officer before you shoot. No experience or firearm licence is needed; the rifle, targets, eye and ear protection are provided. The range is open Monday to Saturday, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, you arrive 15 minutes early with closed shoes and a valid ID, and juniors aged 10 to 17 can shoot with a parent's or guardian's consent. The other ranges are compared in shooting ranges in Nairobi.

The First Hot Yoga Class in Nairobi at Bikram Yoga Nairobi is KES 2,500 for a 90-minute beginner-friendly class in the heated room, with an orientation, a trained instructor and a shower afterwards. The catch is the minimum booking of four people, so it is a friends' plan rather than a solo one. Arrive 20 minutes early on an empty stomach (no food for three to four hours before), in clothes you can sweat in, and bring a mat, two towels and plenty of water; mats and towels can be hired. Ages 10 to 70; anyone pregnant or with heart, blood-pressure or heat concerns should get medical advice first.

US$10 to US$25: glass, flip-flops, fabric and three guided walks

Watch Glassblowers at Kitengela is priced at US$10 per hour for a 1.5-hour studio visit to Kitengela Hot Glass in Kajiado, so US$15 for the visit: a demonstration from a safe viewing point, then the sculpture garden and gallery, for up to 10 people. It is a demonstration, not a class; hands-on sessions are separate, for ages 10 or older, and some need notice. The hanging bridge, swimming and sauna carry separate fees. Do not route through Kitengela town; use the studio's current map and confirm directions after booking. The Kiambu alternative is Greenthing's recycled glass tour.

The Ocean Sole Sculpture and Bracelet Workshop at Karen Village on Ngong Road is US$11.50 per person for three hours: you follow discarded flip-flops through washing, cutting and sanding, then shape a small sculpture and string a beaded bracelet, both yours to keep. You need at least five paying guests and the host approves each booking; child tickets cover ages 5 to 12, under-5s enter free with a paying adult, and every child stays with an adult. Wear closed shoes and clothes that can take dust. A gift-shop visit is a US$25 add-on and the venue is cashless.

Ankara Fabric Shopping & Same-Day Tailoring is a three-hour guided outing from US$17 per person: meet Josephine outside Naivas at The Mall in Westlands, shop the Ankara fabric scene, then finish at her Kitukizuri Ankara Studio on David Osieli Road. Coffee or tea and local transfers by Uber or matatu are advertised as included; fabric, tailoring and optional hair braiding are paid separately and should be confirmed with the host before the booking is accepted. What the tailoring really costs is in the Ankara tour guide.

Happy Tribe Travel's three US$25 outings are the Nairobi Historic & Modern Highlights Walking Tour (about 4.3 km and three to four hours from CJ's on Koinange Street, with bottled water, a City Market fruit tasting and photo help, KICC rooftop extra), the Nairobi Green Bus City Sightseeing Tour (about four hours by sightseeing bus with short stops, minimum two people, KICC helipad US$4 by card) and the Kibera Compassionate Walking Tour. The Kibera walk is about three hours with a community-connected guide, bottled water and a safety and photo-etiquette briefing; you photograph only with clear permission, never enter the neighbourhood on your own, and route any donation through a partner the guide identifies rather than giving directly. The first two are compared in Nairobi city tours compared.

Kibera Compassionate Walking Tour

Visit Kibera with a local guide who approaches the neighbourhood as a living community rather than a spectacle. The walk focuses on everyday enterprise, local initiatives, creativity and the people building opportunity from within. Happy Tribe’s approximately three-hour format emphasises consent before photographs, respectful conversation and listening to community voices. Guests should arrive curious, follow the guide’s advice closely and avoid making promises or donations directly unless a trusted local partner has been identified.

Nairobi National Park costs KES 1,000 for a Kenyan adult

If you have a car, the cheapest wildlife day is the park itself. The Kenya Wildlife Service lists entry at KES 1,000 for an East African citizen adult and KES 500 for a child, KES 1,350 and KES 675 for Kenya residents, and US$80 and US$40 for non-residents. The gates open at 6:00 am and close at 6:00 pm, the main gate is on Lang'ata Road about 8 km from the central business district, and single-use plastic is banned inside. Whether to drive yourself or pay for a guided vehicle is worked through in self-drive vs guided game drive at Nairobi National Park. The Nairobi National Museum, about 20 minutes from the centre, is open 8:30 am to 5:30 pm every day including public holidays; its fees and the Snake Park are in our museum afternoon guide.

How to keep a cheap day cheap

  • Stack the Kereita pair. The nature walk (KES 400) and footgolf (KES 1,000) run from the same reception on the same Thursday-to-Sunday hours, so one trip to Limuru covers both.
  • Count the extras before you go. KICC rooftop on the city walks, the gift shop at Ocean Sole, fabric and tailoring on the Ankara tour, the gate fee at Ngong and the market stalls at ForestFoods are all outside the headline price.
  • Watch the minimums. Ocean Sole (five), hot yoga (four), the Green Bus and footgolf (two) only work at the cheap price if you bring the group.
  • Check the days. Kazuri and the rifle club run Monday to Saturday, The Forest Thursday to Sunday and public holidays, ForestFoods on published dates only.
  • Wrong fit: anyone expecting hotel pickup at these prices, anyone who wants to blow glass on the Kitengela ticket, and anyone who wants to visit Kibera unguided.
