Visa requirements for American passport holders traveling to Kenya

Entry Requirements

Required Documents

  • Valid passport with 6+ months validity

    US passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from the date of entry into Kenya. The passport must also contain at least two blank pages for entry/exit stamps.

  • Passport photograph

  • Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

    US citizens must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before traveling to Kenya. The eTA must be applied for online at the official Kenya government eVisa portal before departure. No visa on arrival is available. Once approved, the eTA will be sent via email and should be printed and brought to present to authorities at the border. The eTA is valid for a single entry and allows stays up to 90 days.

Optional Documents

  • Yellow Fever vaccination certificate

    Proof of Yellow Fever vaccination is required only for travelers arriving to Kenya from a country with risk of Yellow Fever transmission. Travelers should check if their departure country is listed on the World Health Organization's List of Yellow Fever Endemic Countries.

  • Polio vaccine documentation

    Travelers should be up-to-date on polio vaccines. While not always strictly enforced at entry, it is recommended for travel to Kenya.
