American to Italy Visa Free (90 days)

Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure date from the Schengen area. Passport should be no older than 10 years and have at least two blank pages.

Confirmed return or onward flight tickets covering the intended travel dates within the 90-day visa-free stay.

Hotel booking or accommodation confirmation covering the duration of the stay in Italy.

Starting Q4 2026, U.S. citizens must obtain ETIAS authorization before traveling to Italy for stays under 90 days. The ETIAS application is electronic, requires personal info, passport details, and payment of a small fee (~7 EUR). Valid for up to 3 years or until passport expiration.

Recommended but not mandatory: Travel insurance covering medical emergencies with coverage of at least 30,000 EUR.
