Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States.
Form I-20 from SEVP-certified institution
You must be accepted by a SEVP-certified school, which will issue your Form I-20. This form is required for your visa application and interview.
Proof of funds: $X USD
You must provide evidence of sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses for the duration of your program. The amount required will be specified on your Form I-20.
IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent
You must demonstrate English language proficiency as required by your institution. Acceptable tests include TOEFL, IELTS, or institutional assessments.
Bachelor's degree or higher
You must have completed previous academic qualifications as required by your chosen institution. For undergraduate programs, a high school diploma is required; for graduate programs, a bachelor's degree is required.
Police clearance certificate
You may be required to provide a police clearance certificate from your home country or any country where you have lived for more than six months in the past five years.
SEVIS I-901 fee payment confirmation
You must pay the SEVIS I-901 fee and provide the confirmation receipt as part of your application.
DS-160 visa application form
Complete the DS-160 online visa application form and bring the confirmation page to your interview.
Visa interview appointment confirmation
Schedule and attend your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Bring your appointment confirmation.
Photograph meeting U.S. visa specifications
Provide a recent photograph that meets the U.S. visa photo requirements.
Travel itinerary (if available)
A travel itinerary is not mandatory but may be requested by the consular officer.
Medical examination by approved physician
A medical examination is not generally required for F-1 visas unless specifically requested by the embassy or consulate.
