Valid passport with 6+ months validity
Each applicant must have a valid passport with at least six months' validity beyond the intended date of entry into the U.S.
Proof of U.S. citizenship or LPR status for petitioner
Petitioner must provide a copy of their U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate, Naturalization Certificate, Certificate of Citizenship, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or Green Card (if LPR).
Birth certificate for applicant and petitioner
Submit both the petitioner's and beneficiary's birth certificates to establish the family relationship; must show shared parent(s) for sibling petitions.
Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative
The U.S. citizen or LPR sponsor must file Form I-130 with correct signatures, complete information, and required evidence.
Affidavit of Support (Form I-864)
Sponsor must complete Form I-864, showing that their income is at least 125% of the U.S. Federal Poverty Guidelines for their household size.
Proof of income: federal tax returns, W-2s, recent pay stubs
Sponsor must provide latest federal income tax return, W-2s, and recent pay stubs for financial qualification review.
Police clearance certificate
Applicant must provide a police clearance certificate from each country of residence for more than 6 months since age 16.
Medical examination by approved physician
Applicant must undergo a medical examination by a USCIS-approved civil surgeon; results submitted on standard forms.
Proof of relationship (marriage, adoption, or name change documents, if applicable)
If relevant, provide marriage certificates, divorce decrees, adoption decrees, or court orders substantiating legal relationship or name changes.
