Letter of acceptance from designated learning institution (DLI)
Obtain and upload an official acceptance letter from a DLI in Canada. The letter must include the institution’s information, the program of study, start/end dates, and any conditions.
Provincial or territorial attestation letter (PAL/TAL)
Submit a PAL or TAL from the relevant province or territory. Most student permit applicants, including master's and doctoral students, must provide this document unless exempt (e.g., primary/secondary students, certain priority groups, exchange students).
Valid passport with 6+ months validity
Upload a clear scan of the passport’s information page; expiry must be at least six months beyond intended arrival. Provide original passport if approved.
2 recent passport size photos
Upload digital copies. Write name and date of birth on back of each photo.
Proof of funds: $22,895 USD
Provide financial evidence (recent bank statements, loan documents, scholarship letters, etc.) showing at least $22,895 USD for living expenses, plus separate proof for first year's tuition and return travel. If bringing dependents, amounts increase per official table.
Educational transcripts and diplomas
Upload all required academic transcripts, certificates, and diplomas from previous institutions. Must match admission requirements for the chosen program.
Police clearance certificate
Provide official police certificate from country of residence, confirming no criminal record. Required in most cases.
Medical examination by approved physician
Undergo medical exam by IRCC-designated physician and upload certificate. Required for applicants from certain countries or if requested.
IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent
Upload official English (IELTS, TOEFL) or French (TEF) test results meeting minimum scores as required by the DLI/program. Generally, IELTS 6.0 overall or equivalent accepted, but higher scores may be needed by individual programs.
Letter of explanation
Upload a statement explaining reasons for study in Canada and understanding of responsibilities as an international student. Recommended but optional.
