A non-resident adult pays US$90 a day at Amboseli and Lake Nakuru, US$80 at Tsavo East or Tsavo West, US$50 at Hell's Gate, and US$100 a day in the Maasai Mara from January to June or US$200 from July to December. Kenyan and East African citizens pay in shillings at a fraction of those rates, and residents, African citizens and children each have their own line. The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) schedule below has been in force since October 2025 and the Mara figures are Narok County's 2025/26 schedule, both read on 30 October 2026. Fees are per person per day and vehicles pay extra, so the useful question when you compare safari packages is which fees are in the price. We list five packages at the end with that line checked.
KWS fees are per person per day, and your category sets the currency
KWS splits visitors into four categories on every park page: East African citizens (paying in KES), Kenya residents holding a valid permit, pass or permanent residence (KES), African citizens from outside East Africa (USD) and non-residents (USD). A child is aged five to under 18, and children aged five and younger enter free. A student is up to 23 years old, from a recognised school, college or university, on a documented educational visit. The KWS conservation fee schedule defines the daily fee as a single access valid for no more than 24 hours, and the park pages say gates open at 6:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM unless you are staying overnight inside. Kenyan citizens aged 70 and over, persons with disability and tour drivers, guides and porters registered with the Tourism Regulatory Authority are exempt. Our visitor rates guide explains which document proves each category at the gate.
| Park | East African citizen (KES) | Kenya resident (KES) | Non-resident (US$) | African citizen (US$) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amboseli, Lake Nakuru | 1,500 / 750 | 2,025 / 1,050 | 90 / 45 | 50 / 25 |
| Tsavo East, Tsavo West | 1,000 / 500 | 1,350 / 675 | 80 / 40 | 40 / 20 |
| Nairobi National Park | 1,000 / 500 | 1,350 / 675 | 80 / 40 | 40 / 20 |
| Meru, Kora, Aberdare | 800 / 500 | 1,100 / 675 | 70 / 40 | 40 / 20 |
| Mount Kenya | 800 / 400 | 1,100 / 550 | 70 / 35 | 30 / 15 |
| Hell's Gate, Longonot, Mount Elgon, Ol Donyo Sabuk, Shimba Hills, Kakamega, Lake Elementaita | 500 / 250 | 675 / 350 | 50 / 25 | 20 / 10 |
| Marine parks (Kisite Mpunguti, Watamu, Mombasa, Malindi, Kiunga, Diani Chale) | 500 / 250 | 675 / 350 | 25 / 15 | 15 / 10 |
| Tsavo West and Amboseli package | 2,200 / 1,100 | 2,900 / 1,550 | 150 / 80 | 80 / 45 |
| Tsavo East, Tsavo West and Amboseli package | 3,000 / 1,500 | 4,000 / 2,150 | 215 / 115 | 115 / 60 |
The two package lines matter if you are driving the southern circuit: a non-resident adult doing Tsavo West and Amboseli on one package ticket pays US$150 instead of US$170 bought separately. KWS routes payment through KWSPay on eCitizen, its official booking and payment platform, and each park page carries a Pay for Park Entry link and the toll-free line 0800 597 000. Carry the ID that proves your category and the payment confirmation to the gate. Nairobi National Park has its own page in our Nairobi National Park fees guide, including the Nairobi package with the Animal Orphanage and Safari Walk.

The Maasai Mara is a county reserve, and its adult fee doubles from 1 July
The Maasai Mara National Reserve is run by the County Government of Narok, not KWS, and its 2025/26 park fees and charges use two seasons. The county says the seasonal rates exist to spread visitors through the year and keep numbers within the reserve's carrying capacity. Children aged eight and under are free, which is a different cut-off from the KWS parks, and children aged 9 to 17 pay a flat US$50 all year if they are non-residents.
| Category | Adult, January to June | Adult, July to December | Child 9 to 17 | Child 8 and under |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Non-resident | US$100 | US$200 | US$50 all year (students US$50) | Free |
| Kenyan citizen | KES 1,500 | KES 3,000 | KES 300 low season, KES 500 high season | Free |
| East African resident | KES 2,500 | KES 5,000 | KES 1,000 low season, KES 2,000 high season | Free |
| Narok County resident | KES 1,000 | KES 2,000 | KES 200 low season, KES 500 high season | Free |
A couple visiting the Mara for three days in August therefore pays US$1,200 in entry fees alone, against US$600 for the same days in March. If your dates are flexible and the migration is not the point of the trip, the first half of the year halves the biggest line on a Mara budget. The private conservancies around the reserve charge their own conservation fees, usually built into the nightly rate of the camp you stay at, so compare a reserve package and a conservancy package on the total, not the headline.

Vehicles, camping and activities are charged on top
In KWS parks every vehicle pays a daily charge by seat count: KES 600 for fewer than six seats, KES 1,500 for 6 to 12 seats (the standard safari van or Land Cruiser), KES 3,000 for 13 to 24 seats, KES 4,500 for 25 to 44 and KES 5,000 for 45 and above. Public campsites in Amboseli and Lake Nakuru cost US$30 per non-resident adult per night (KES 250 for East African citizens) and US$20 in all other parks; special campsites are US$50 and US$35 respectively plus a non-refundable KES 10,000 reservation fee per week. Activity fees, all exclusive of park entry, include a balloon safari landing at US$80 per adult and US$40 per child, a night game drive at US$50 per person in the parks that offer one, an organised walking safari in Tsavo East, Tsavo West, Meru or Kora at US$50 per person per day for groups of up to ten, cycling at Hell's Gate, Longonot or Ol Donyo Sabuk at US$10 a day, and a drone at US$300 per drone per day with a KCAA licence. The schedule also offers an annual pass: KES 45,000 for an adult, KES 80,000 for a couple and KES 130,000 for a family of two adults plus as many as five children.
Check the park-fee line before you compare safari prices
Two packages with the same headline can differ by hundreds of dollars once you add the daily fees. Here is that line on five current listings. The Three Day Amboseli Elephant Safari at US$650 per person includes return transport from Nairobi in a seven-seat van, two nights at Kibo Safari Camp or a confirmed equivalent, three meals a day and the driver-guide, but Amboseli entry fees are paid separately; be ready between 7:30 and 8:00 AM on day one with photo ID and payment for them. On this itinerary a non-resident adult enters the park on three calendar days, so plan around US$90 for each day of entry and confirm the ticket count with us when you book, since the 24-hour rule can reduce it.
Three Day Amboseli Elephant Safari
Spend three unhurried days in Amboseli, where elephant families cross open plains beneath Mount Kilimanjaro when the clouds lift. Drive south from Nairobi for an afternoon introduction, devote the middle day to the park's swamps, Observation Hill and wildlife, then enjoy a final game drive on the way home. Two nights at Kibo Safari Camp or the confirmed equivalent and three meals a day are included, along with the safari vehicle and professional driver-guide. Park entry is paid separately, and the optional Maasai village visit can be added at extra cost. Hi Five Adventures is licensed by Kenya’s Tourism Regulatory Authority.

View experienceThe Lake Nakuru Wildlife Safari Day at US$265 per person is a 12 to 13-hour day from Nairobi with a 5:30 AM pickup, morning and afternoon game drives and a Rift Valley viewpoint stop, with Lake Nakuru entry and lunch both paid separately. That adds US$90 for a non-resident adult or KES 1,500 for an East African citizen, plus whatever lunch costs at the stop the guide picks.
Lake Nakuru Wildlife Safari Day
Leave Nairobi before dawn for a full day among Lake Nakuru's forests, grasslands and shifting lakeshore. After a Great Rift Valley viewpoint stop, search the park for black and white rhinos, Rothschild's giraffes, buffalo, lion, zebra and abundant birdlife. A lunch break at your own cost divides the morning and afternoon drives before the road journey back to Nairobi. The professional driver-guide, safari vehicle and drinking water are included; park entry is paid separately. It is a scenic 12 to 13-hour outing for guests who want a strong chance of varied wildlife without an overnight stay.

View experienceThe 4-Day Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru Group Safari by 4x4 at US$240 per person sharing is the cheapest headline here and the one where the fee line changes the total most: all Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru park entrance fees are excluded, the group is capped at eight, a single room adds US$30, and the optional balloon is published at US$430. A non-resident on the July to December rate adds US$200 for each Mara day plus US$90 for the Nakuru morning, so a four-day trip in August costs more in park fees than in land package.
4-Day Maasai Mara & Lake Nakuru Group Safari by 4×4
A four-day, three-night small-group safari linking Maasai Mara’s open savannah and Lake Nakuru’s rhino habitat in a pop-roof 4×4 Land Cruiser. The itinerary travels from Nairobi via the Great Rift Valley for an introductory Mara game drive, devotes day two to full-day wildlife viewing and the Mara River, transfers to Nakuru on day three, then enters Lake Nakuru National Park for a final game drive before returning to Nairobi. The group is capped at eight. Wildlife and migration sightings cannot be guaranteed. The official website price captured 5 August 2026 is USD 240 per person sharing, excluding all park entrance fees; a single room adds USD 30. Public popularity snapshot: GetYourGuide 4.7/5 from 73 ratings and Tripadvisor 5.0/5 from 5 product reviews, with a Travelers’ Choice marker. Review themes emphasize smooth organization, guide knowledge, abundant wildlife and the value of combining Mara and Nakuru; several travelers describe the budget accommodation as simple.

Tsavo East Safari Day from Diani
Trade the coast for Tsavo's red earth on a full safari day from Diani. Leave early in a pop-roof Land Cruiser, enter Tsavo East and follow open plains, waterholes and river country in search of red-dusted elephants, lion, giraffe, buffalo, zebra and antelope. A lodge lunch and drinking water keep the day comfortable before the afternoon game drive and South Coast return. View experienceFor a non-safari park, the Hell's Gate Rock Climbing Day at KES 9,500 per person, for ages 12 to 75, is a guided climbing day on the park's volcanic rock faces; the host confirms the climbing area, equipment and whether park fees and transport are included before accepting the booking, so ask that question first. Hell's Gate's own entry is one of the cheapest in the system at US$50 for a non-resident adult and KES 500 for an East African citizen.
Hell's Gate Rock Climbing Day
Climb in the volcanic landscape of Hell's Gate National Park on a guided day designed for challenge, technique and big Rift Valley views. Vicking Ventures lists this day at KES 9,500 per person and advertises expert instruction. The host confirms the chosen climbing area, equipment, participant requirements and whether park fees or transport are included before accepting the booking.

A non-resident adult pays US$100 per day from January to June and US$200 per day from July to December on Narok County's 2025/26 schedule. Children aged 9 to 17 pay US$50 all year and children aged 8 and under are free. Kenyan citizen adults pay KES 1,500 or KES 3,000 by season.

In KWS parks children aged five and younger are free and a child is charged from age five to under 18. In the Maasai Mara, which Narok County runs, children aged eight and under are free and the child rate applies from 9 to 17.
The KWS schedule defines the daily fee as a single access valid for no more than 24 hours. Gates open at 6:00 AM and close at 6:00 PM unless you are staying overnight inside the park.
Some do and some do not, and the difference can be larger than the gap between two package prices. Of the five listings in this guide, the Tsavo East day from Diani includes fees, while the Three Day Amboseli Elephant Safari, the Lake Nakuru day and the 4-Day Maasai Mara and Lake Nakuru group safari exclude them.
